Cultural critic Slavoj Žižek is the most famous and controversial psychoanalytic philosopher in the world today. His books include such classics as Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Lacan… But Were Afraid to Ask Hitchcock, Interrogating the Real, and Absolute Recoil: Towards a New Foundation of Dialectical Materialism, films include The Pervert’s Guide to Ideology and The Pervert’s Guide to Cinema, and he is the subject of Astra Taylor’s documentary Zizek! In this second of two talks in Southern California, he interrogates the contemporary religious impulse. Žižek holds positions at the University of Ljubljana, NYU and the University of London.
